Holyoke School District Health and Wellness committee hosted “Bike to School Day 2017” on May 10th to celebrate the benefits of choosing student-powered transportation. Students, staff and community members rode their bikes in a safe but quick paced parade around the football field. Police and Wellness Committee members supervised the route to ensure student safety. Classmates, teachers and parents cheered the riders from the sidelines. \r\n
\r\nAs the warm weather entices us to be outside for some healthy exercise, everyone in Holyoke is encouraged to remember bike safety including wearing a helmet and scanning the road ahead for hazards. \r\n
\r\n“Bicycling is a wonderful way to exercise, have fun and can be a means for some students to get to school,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao. “National Bike to School Day is an opportunity for communities to highlight the many benefits of bicycling and promote bicycle safety for Americans of all ages.”\r\n
