As part of Mrs. Nelson's Leadership class, Vianey Jimenez decided to raise money for non-profits in our community by planning a haunted house at the Heginbotham Library this Saturday, October 26, from 5 pm to 9 pm. The cost to go through it is $5.
Vianey said "Based on my research, my community needs help funding our local nonprofits. There are four main non profits in my community that I would like to help out. They are our local library, our local movie theater, Because, and Family Education. The library is important to me because I have always had a love for reading and I would like to support my local library as best I can , especially considering we live in a small town we could always have more people reading and enjoying books. The movie theater is important to me because I remember as a kid begging my parents to let me go see the new Barbie movie with their friends. BECAUSE it is a local non profit that helps people struggling financially in our community and I would like to help them out in any way I can. Family Education is also a local nonprofit that helps out the local Hispanic community learn English as well as study for citizenship classes as well as host festivals and performances for the whole community. Even though a lot of the non-profits have their own fundraising they still have to rely on grants. The director of the library told me they rely on grant money to be able to buy books for the library."
